Easy New Year’s Resolution for Homeowners

The New Year is around the corner and that means it’s time to start looking ahead and thinking on ways to improve your future for your home and family. It doesn’t matter if you are a new homeowner or have been one for 10 years, setting goals for your household helps you prepare for the upcoming year and anything that may come your way.

Implementing a routine, going over expenses, and investing in your home are great ways to start the new year and form healthy habits. Make some room on your resolution list and add these following goals to be prepared for your best year yet!

Shrink your Bills

Consider going more energy efficient, simple things such as reducing cost of your utility bills can have a huge impact. The best place to start as a homeowner is by cutting down your energy usage in your home. This is a simple change, like turning off your air conditioning during the day when your off at work and the kids are in school. Making sure to install LED bulbs around your home and adding low-flow showerheads to minimize cost.

Workout a weekly system for keeping your house clean

There is nothing like coming home to a clean house. Staying organized and keeping things clean can be hard if you let things pile up. Stay on top of your cleaning by creating a system that works for you and your schedule. Have designated days for different tasks such as laundry, dishes, moping, etc.

Implementing rules with your family, such as the dishwasher being loaded every night before going to sleep. Assigning each family member to a specific task, dividing the chores amongst each other to minimize the time it takes to clean helps.

Make it Safe

Something to always keep in the top of your list for the new years is the safety of your loved ones and your home. Start by testing and maintaining your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Make sure to test every month and keep track on when they are being tested.

Then buy fire extinguishers and keep them in the right place. Finally, avoid fire hazards in your home and follow the fire safety tips.

Finally, it is always recommended to have an emergency kit in your household. Make sure to have enough water, medications, chargers, maps, radios, flashlights, first aid kit etc. Being prepared and having this in your house will give you peace of mind.

Do a Curb Appeal Project!

Homeowners can get so busy throughout the year that they can neglect the exterior appearance of their property. Doing a small curb appeal project to maintain or increase the attractiveness of your home can boost a newfound pride for your property. Some simple projects include painting the front door, planting fast-growing plants, installing path lighting and placing welcoming outdoor furniture on your front porch.

Any exterior changes make sure to submit an ACC Application prior to starting any work. Depending on your HOA, you may need to receive Board Approval before starting your curb appeal project. Make sure to connect with management to ask questions, stay involved, and connect during the application process.
